The story of the burial of Teresa Engelowitz - is the name of an incident that took place in 1984, when Haredim took out the body of a non-Jewish woman buried there in the new cemetery in Rishon Lezion and threw it without burial in a Muslim cemetery. The body was then returned to its grave and the request of the Hevra Kadisha to relocate it was not filled. The incident caused a great public uproar and sparked fierce controversy between the religious and the secular in Israel.

The police appointed a special investigation team to investigate the removal of the body from its grave and its disposal in Ramle. On March 7, police arrested two suspects in the affair - David Ehrenfeld , a member of the Chevra Kadisha in Rishon Letzion, and Meir Agassi . Both were in their thirties and members of the Eda Haredit community. On March 14, an indictment was filed against the suspects, accusing them of transferring a body from a grave without a permit and desecrating the dead. Two days later, Magistrate Court Judge Edmond Levy ordered their detention until the end of legal proceedings against them. On April 12, they were released from detention on bail and under restrictive conditions.
