A carved marble cylinder seal with animals; accompanied by a museum-quality impression, and a hand written and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder seal of white marble 23 x 13 mm. Two overlapping quadruped monsters, trees behind. Sumerian, Early Dynastic, c. 2700-2500 B.C. Condition fair. W.G. Lambert.' 5.39 grams, 23mm (1"). Fine condition.
Provenance
Property of a London gentleman; previously in the late Hassan Reyhani collection before 2000; acquired on the UK art market in the 1980s-early 1990s; thence by descent.
