A carved haematite cylinder seal with figures; accompanied by a museum-quality impression, and a hand written and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder seal of hematite 27 x 15 mm. Sun-god to right, in horned tiara and long robe, one foot on foot-stool, holding up saw. Human worshipper facing, in long fringed robe, raising one hand, to left a Lamma goddess in horned tiara and long fringed robe, raising both hands; on far left god with mace: hat, short clothes, holding mace at waist. Old Babylonian, c.1900-1700 B.C. Condition fine . W.G. Lambert.' 21 grams, 27mm (1"). Very fine condition.

Property of a London gentleman; previously in the late Hassan Reyhani collection before 2000; acquired on the UK art market in the 1980s-early 1990s; thence by descent.
