Gandharan Figural Frieze Section with Buddha and Worshippers
2nd-4th century AD
A carved schist frieze fragment of curved plan comprising a rim with foliage design, upper band with seated Buddha flanked by kneeling and crouching worshippers, D-section wreaths flanking a band with deep chequy ornament, lower band with column in a frame and frieze with horsemen, camel(?) elephant and other animals. 3.7 kg, 40.5cm wide (15 3/4"). Fair condition; cracked and repaired.
