Medieval Architectural Gargoyle Head
12th-14th century AD
A carved stone protome architectural element formed as a square-section male head with prominent nose, hollowed ears, hanks of hair to the top, sides and rear, lentoid eyes and crescent mouth; waisted base below and shallow ledge to the reverse. 16 kg, 36cm (14"). Fine condition.

Property of a Nottinghhamshire collector; formerly in a Norfolk collection; from Great Massingham, Norfolk, UK.
