BAUDELAIRE CHARLES: (1821-1868) French Poet, a pioneering translator of Edgar Allan Poe. A.N.S., Charles Baudelaire, a full, bold and clean signature example, one page, oblong 8vo, Paris, 5th of November 1857, in French. The document is a bill of exchange hand written by Baudelaire, getting obliged to pay `On fifth of January, I will pay to Monsieur Cousinet, or to his order, the sum of two hundred francs, value received in goods´. Baudelaire adds underneath his signature, his own address `17 quai Voltaire´ in his hand. Two ink stamps validating the document, to the front. To the verso Cousinet transfers his credit, in Paris, 15th December 1857, Pay to the order of M.M. Lecuyer. Together with two letters, one page each, 4to, being documents related to Baudelaire and Cousinet and to the lawyer´s expenses related to a court claim. Very small overall age wear with a pinhole only affecting to letters of the address. G to VG £1500-2000 €1700 - 2300 Baudelaire acknowledges this debt, and this would be an ongoing situation for all of his life. Louis Cousinet was a Restaurateur at the Tour d´Argent in Paris.
