BAUDELAIRE CHARLES: (1821-1868) French Poet, a pioneering translator of Edgar Allan Poe. A.N.S., sig...
BAUDELAIRE CHARLES: (1821-1868) French Poet, a pioneering translator of Edgar Allan Poe. A.N.S., signed twice `Charles Baudelaire´ and `C.B´, one page, 4to, n.p. [Paris], 15th August 1858, in French. By this document Baudelaire authorizes M. Cousinet to `be paid on my behalf the sum of five hundred francs being the price of my articles for the Revue Contemporaine; This delegation is issued to be substituted by a bill of exchange to the bearer, for the same sum, and due date of 15th August 1858.´ Beneath his signature Baudelaire adds `Will have to be paid on top the charges and interest from 15th August 1858´ and signs with his initials `C.B´. One ink stamp validating the document to the upper left front. Together with D.S., two pages, 4to, the partially printed document being a citation for Baudelaire, calling him for a conciliation before justice, stating `To sentence the mentioned Mr. Charles Baudelaire to pay the amount of six hundred francs..´ Small overall age wear, mostly to edges and few pinholes not affecting the signatures. VG £2000-3000
Louis Cousinet was a Restaurateur at the Tour d´Argent in Paris. Baudelaire used to eat at his restaurant, often with friends and without money to pay his bills.
