Der Kleine Cohn - Anti-Semitic Jokes - Pocket Edition, 1915

Der Kleine Cohn in der Westentasche Anekdoten und von G.Danner - Little Mr. Cohen in his pocket ... by R. Buttig. c- 1915. German.

An antisemitic book of jokes in a pocket edition about 'Little Cohen'. The caricatures of "Little Adon Cohen" were the subject of many anti-Semitic postcards and illustrations in the early 20th century. His character first appeared in a children's song composed by composer Julius Einödshofer, where the song was 'Did You See Little Mr. Cohen?' Describing traitor Jews that before he was caught betraying simply 'disappeared'. Soon puppets appeared in the German children's rooms in the form of 'Little Cohen' next to the lyrics of the song. the German 'Thalia' Theater hastily distributed postcards bearing the ridiculous image of 'Little Cohen'. In 1907 a German newspaper described the suicide of a Jewish soldier after assaults by non-Jewish soldiers under the heading 'Little Cohn'. The character reappeared in various publications in ridiculous situations with anti-Semitic captions. Following the publication of the figure in various publications, German Jews were generally referred to as the derogatory "little Cohen."
