"Visit Palestine This Spring" – Tel-Aviv, 1932 – Two Invitations Cards and a Postcard
Two invitation cards and a postcard issued by the Tel-Aviv Municipality for the events of Purim, the Maccabiah games and the Levant Fair. Tel-Aviv, [1932]. Hebrew, English, French and German.
Toward the spring of 1932, the Tel-Aviv Municipality handed out invitations and postcards to the resident of the town, to be sent to their friends and relatives abroad inviting them to visit Palestine.
The objective was to encourage tourism to Tel-Aviv and to brand it as a modern city capable of offering international events. Under the title "Spring Enterprises", the following events took place for the first time: the Purim carnival, the Maccabiah games and the Levant Fair.
Before us are two invitation cards (in English and in French) and a postcard (German) captioned "Visit Palestine this Spring". An identical illustration appears on all three: a teeming street in Tel-Aviv, with the "flying camel" emblem, the emblem of the "Maccabiah" games and the emblem of the Tel-Aviv Municipality with a Purim mask.
Approx. 9x14cm. Good condition. A few minor stains and blemishes. The postcard was sent by mail (pen writing and a postage stamp on verso).
