A collection of photographs and paper items which belonged to Joseph Graff, a sergeant and vehicle commander in the Jewish Brigade. Various places in Europe and Palestine, 1944-1946 (one photograph is earlier). English and Hebrew.
Among the items: * approx. 40 photographs (Graff driving motorcycles, APC's and a military vehicle; the soldiers of the Brigade playing with a target device, with the faces of the elite of the Nazi party; two photographs of the unit by Zoltan Kluger; and more). * Four military certificates (certificate for driving a Universal Carrier; certificate for driving a vehicle weighing more than three ton; and more. * Hand-drawn caricature – Graff wearing the uniform of the Jewish Brigade. On verso, a handwritten comment: "Taken during a recess at the Folies Bergère, during one minute". * Printed paper label with the emblem of the Jewish Brigade. * Letters and parts of letters sent by Graph during his service. * And more.
Many of the photographs are described on verso in handwriting (Hebrew) and stamped.
The items are placed in a faux leather pouch; on its front is a logo with the Hebrew inscription: "The Yishuv to its soldiers". A pin of the Jewish Brigade is attached to the inside of the pouch.
Enclosed: twenty-three photographs and documents from earlier or later periods (certificates from the British Mandate, documents from Graff's service in the War of Independence, photographs from his time in the IDF, and more).
A total of approx. 55 items. Size and condition vary. Good-fair condition. One letter is in bad condition, with open tears and blemishes on text.
