A sketch for a bifolio from the Jerusalem Haggadah, designed by Yael Hershberg. Caligraphy by Yitzchak (Izzy) Plodvinsky. [Ca. 1996].
Ink, watercolors and gold leaf on paper.
In the inside opening appear the passages "Avadim Hayinu" (We were Slaves) and "Ma'aseh BeRabbi Eliezer" (A story about Rabbi Eliezer) from the Haggadah in nice calligraphic red and black lettering, decorated with gilt initial words rich in detail. The text passages are framed, each frame designed as a couple of pillars of a different architectural style and a beam. Beneath the text passages, floral decorations were added.
On the two external pages of the bifolio appear the passages "[Mah] Nishtana" (What has Changed) and "[Baruch] Hamakom Baruch Huh" (Blessed be God) from the Haggadah, as well as instructions for the Seder, alongside initial words and decorations sketched in pencil.
Bifolio: approx. 54x42 cm. Good-fair condition. Slits in the center of the right leaf of the bifolio. A single cut in the left leaf. Suspension holes and staples in the margins of the bifolio.
