The Famous Picture of the First Mizrachi Conference. Lida, 1903
The Mizrachi movement combined Jewish outlook and the idea of the love of Zion. The purpose of the conference was to consolidate a political force within the Zionist movement which could battle the trends from various personalities to raise the "The Question of Culture" at the Zionist Congresses, which it identified as having the intent to strengthen the secular character of the movement and its activists.
Rabbi Yitzchak Ya'akov Reines, founder of Mizrachi, appears in the center.
Participating rabbis included: Rabbi Pinchas Rozovsky, Av Beit Din of Svencionys; Yehudah Leib Kovalsky, Av Beit Din of Włocławek; Shmuel Alexandrov, Avraham Reines (the son); Yitzchak Nissenbaum; Yosef Lamdan (?); Shimon Ya'akov HaLevi Glicksberg; Ze'ev Ya'vetz; (the youth) Yehudah Leib Fischman-Maimon and more. There were also activists Zalman Gorland; Avraham Ya'akov Slotzky; Fischel Pines; Pesach Friedland, Ya'akov Berman, Moshe Cohen, Dr. Avinovitzky, Moshe Abramson and more.
In the book Lida, page 107, it says that there was a delegation of yeshivah students from Lithuania at the conference. The students requested establishment of a yeshivah in the Mizrachi spirit, with general studies, Zionist activities, etc.
