במשך 12 שנים שימש דיטריך ימ"ש כקצין העיתונות הראשי של היטלר, כלומר: הוא היה הממונה הראשי על העתונות מטעם המפלגה הנאצית. בכל יום הוא כינס את עורכי העיתונים החשובים בברלין והודיע להם מה תהיה הכותרת.
בתחילת הספר מופיעה תמונתו של המחבר הצורר.
