Italian genre and portrait painter who lived and worked in Paris for most of his life. Recalled as the Master of Swish because of his flowing and smooth style of painting. Edgar Degas who he befriended when arriving to Paris in 1872 ins- pired him deeply. Additionally to this, his origi- nal and dashing brushstroke shows some Italian influence and a reminiscence of younger artists such as John Singer Sargent and Paul Helleu. Giovanni Bolidini was nominated commis- sioner of the Italian section for the Paris Expo- sition in 1889 and was awarded the Légion d’Honneur. Finally, he had a solo exhibition in New York in 1897 and participated in the Ve- nice Biennale of 1895, 1903, 1905 and 1912. Temporary exportation, a subject to import tax.
