Watercolor on cardboard, 45x58 cm, signed, with a handwritten dedication in English under the signature.
The painting's authenticity has been confirmed by Mrs. Carmela Rubin of the Rubin Museum in Tel Aviv. There is also confirmation from the well-known workshop The House of Heydenryk, where the artist's paintings were framed in the 1950s.
Reuven Rubin (1893-1974) was born in Romania and arrived in the Land of Israel in 1912 in order to study at Bezalel. He stayed in the Land for a year and then returned to Paris. He resided in Romania during the course of WWI. After that, he traveled to the United States, when he even held a solo exhibition. He returned to the Land of Israel in 1922. His first paintings reflect the feelings of the renewal of Jewish life in the Land of Israel. Later on, he began to paint Israeli landscapes, and occasionally biblical stories. He published three albums of lithographs on the topics: King David; Biblical visions and prophets. He also painted a lot of portraits, including several self-portraits. He was recognized as one of the greatest Israeli painters and won many awards, including the Israel Prize in 1973. He passed away in Tel Aviv.
