Important Letter from "Beit Shmuel" Yeshivah in Jerusalem
A letter confirming receipt of money for "Beit Shmuel" Yeshivah in Jerusalem, signed by the sages of M'aravim community. Jerusalem, [1880?].
The letter, addressed to Lisbon community (Portugal) and Rabbi Avraham Ha-Levy, mentions the generous Avraham Amram, after whose father, Shmuel Amram the yeshivah is named. Letter of major significance to the history of Moroccon yeshivot in Jerusalem in the 1880's.
Signed on the letter Rabbi Yehudah Albo, Rabbi Avraham Ya'akov Pinto and Rabbi Masud Ha-Choen Elchadad.
Rabbi Masud Ha-Cohen Elchadad (1820-1927), author of Ko'ach Ma'asav and Simchat Cohen, served for many years as head of Beit El Yeshivah. In the 1880's signed letters with the sages of Jerusalem.
Rabbi Yehudah Albo of the Ma'aravim sages in Jerusalem, was sent on mission in 1877 (see Sasson manuscript, Ohel David, B, page 764).
