Letter by Rabbi Dov Ber Abramowitz, to Rabbi Shmuel Salant, Rabbi of Jerusalem. New York, Elul 1900.
The lengthy letter (which begins with blessings for the new Hebrew year) deals with the Eretz Israel funds, [this was at the time of the famous “funds polemic”], in his letter, Rabbi Abramowitz mentions the Gaon Rabbi Ya’akov David Av Beit Din of Slutzk [who was sojourning in the USA at the time].
Rabbi Dov Ber Abramowitz (1865-1926) was born in Lithuania, moved to Jerusalem, studied in its Yeshivot, served as a Moreh Tzedek and taught Torah classes. In 1895 he traveled to the USA and served there as Rabbi of Philadelphia, New York and st. Louis. He was among the founders of the “US Rabbis Association” and authored the “Dat Israel”, “Ketav Ha-Dat” and more.
