Manuscript, the book Leshon Chachamim, thousands of rhymed entries, alphabetically ordered for writing letters etc. Manuscript by Rabbi Avraham Albuquerque of Jerusalem. Late 19th century. Has not been printed.


The composition contains the book of rhymes "Leshon Chachamim" and in addition, Torah novellae and various personal notes. At the beginning of the manuscript "This is my notebook Avraham Albuquerque S.T." Then the books of rhymes which includes 119 leaves. Later, various rhymed and poetic versions. Then the author's introduction, apparently by his son, about the importance of using poetic, rhymed language. In the following pages, there are Torah novellae and various notes about monetary loans, a list of graves of Tzaddikim, lists of books the author bought, names of the members of his family, the Albuquerque family, names of rabbis such as rabbi Shabai Buchbut, rabbi Yitzchak Ashkenazi and more. Written in Hebrew and a little Ladino.

Rabbi Avraham Albuquerque, one of the sages of Jerusalem and one of the founders of the Mazkeret Moshe – Ohel Moshe neighborhood of Jerusalem (1883). Buried on the Mount of Olives. In the National Library there is a Ketubah from Jerusalem from 1913 which he signed as a wintness with Rabbi Avraham Bijajo.

148 leaves. Several blank leaves. Long, narrow format. 23.5x9cm. Original binding. Good overall condition. In the first leaves, the text is partly damaged due to trimming of the leaf. In the first two leaves, damage with omission.
