[3] Issues of Dachlil. Jerusalem, 1940. First Hebrew Comics

Dachlil, children's weekly (appearing every Thursday), edited by Emanuel Ulsbenger. Issues: first, second, fourth (a total of four were printed).

Dachlil was the second attempt during the 1940s to publish a children's newspaper with a distinctly entertaining character. After an unsuccessful attempt to publish the Ach Sameach children's newspaper [only two issues were published], this weekly entertainment paper appeared in Jerusalem. Its goal was to "expand our society to include all the children in the country" as the editor states in the introduction to the first issue before us. Dachlil included illustrated anecdotes, humorous dialogues by scarecrows "Sha" and "Ga," a comic series called "Masa'ot Gad V'Yossi" and serial adventure stories of detectives Ruth and Yael. There were also, for the first time, "balloon" dialogues by the characters along with captions under the illustrations.

Each issue: 8 pp., 31 cm. The issue is folded in four [uncut]; overall very fine condition.
