Shu"t HaBa"ch. Frankfurt am Main, 1697. First Edition

She'elot U'Teshuvot HaBa"ch by Rabbi Yoel Sirkis, Av Beit Din of Krakow and author of the important commentary "Bayit Chadash" on Arba Turim. Johanne Woshat Press. There is a woodcut engraving of a decorative border and pictures of angels on the title page.

The publisher writes about the progress of the manuscript. He also translated some passages at the end of the book from Yiddish into Hebrew "for the Sephardic sages."

Rabbi Yoel Sirkis [1561-1640] was one of the greatest and most important rabbinical adjudicators of all generations. He authored the famous commentary "Bayit Chadash" ('Ba"ch') on Arba Turim, and since then, has been known by the name of his composition, as "The Ba"ch." He was a disciple of Rabbi Leibush of Lublin (rabbi of the author of Shla"h). He served as rabbi of Posen (presently Poznań, Poland) and in other cities, including Lublin, Mezhibuzh, Belz, Brisk and finally Krakow and the surrounding region, where he served until his passing. Aside from his greatness in Torah, he was also admired by the Chassidic masters. There is a direct oral tradition among them that before his passing, Gihennom was chilled for forty days so that he could remove the souls of evildoers from there.
