Pair of Rare and Important Letters from the Admo"r, the Author of Damesek Eliezer of Vizhnitz

* Important historic letter, signed by Rabbi Eliezer Hager, author of Damesek Eliezer, of Vizhnitz. The letter is addressed to the "Project for the Children of Israel" and deals with the child refugees of the Holocaust who slowly trickled into the Land of Israel and were referred to kibbutzim where they were proselytized. The Rebbe writes with all his heart, "My heart is terrified for the fate ... of the child refugees ... especially the children of Romania who came ... and were given over ... to be educated without Torah and Judaism. Oy, what has become of us." Tel Aviv, 1944.

[1] leaf paper 20 cm. Typewritten and signed by the Admo"r. Very fine condition.

* Rare document [7 lines], entirely handwritten and signed by the author of Damesek Eliezer. The letter was written in the lifetime of his father, the author of Ahavat Yisrael, and it is written on the reverse of an official receipt from the Beit Yisrael yeshivah, which he headed. In the letter, the Rebbe promises - in his own handwriting - that after 120 years, mishnahs will be studied for the ascent of the donor's soul, and that her yahrzeit will be commemorated with kaddish being recited in her memory. Vizhnitz, 1929.

[1] leaf paper, 10 cm. One side is a printed receipt with a handwritten addition by the Admo"r and his printed signature. The second side has a letter written by the Rebbe and with his handwritten signature; fine condition. Fold marks. Aging stains.

The Admo"r Rabbi Eliezer Hager, author of Damesek Eliezer, of Vizhnitz [1891-1946] was the son of the author of Ahavat Yisrael of Vizhnitz, and son-in-law of Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Heschel of Kopyczynitz. In 1922, he was appointed Av Beit Din of Vizhnitz and established the Beit Yisrael yeshivah there, the subject of this letter. After his father's passing in 1936, he began to serve as Admo"r. He fled Vizhnitz in 1940, when it was conquered by the Russians, and he settled in Temesvár. He sent food packages for the Jews who were exiled to the swamps of Transylvania and were starving there. He sold all his belongings for this purpose, including his watch. He was very active in communal affairs and rescuing Jews from the Holocaust. He ascended to the Land of Israel in 1944 and resided in Tel Aviv, where he reestablished the Vizhnitz yeshivah.
