"My Blessings to [you] and all of [yours], a Good and Sweet Year Materially and Spiritually" - Letter to the Hidden Tzaddik Rabbi Yosef Voltoch with the Handwritten Signature of Admo"r Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson of Lubavitch. Days of Selichot
The letter was sent during the days of selichot (1954), to the hidden tzaddik Rabbi Yosef Voltoch. The Rebbe writes an abundance of blessings: "Towards the upcoming new year, for us and the entire Jewish nation for the good, I hereby express my blessings to [you] and all [yours], a blessing to be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year materially and spiritually. Blessings."
The Admo"r Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson [1902-1994], seventh in the dynasty of the Admo"rs of Lubavitch, started serving as Admo"r in 1951 and continued until his passing. He was a tremendous gaon in all aspects of the Torah. His net was - and still is - cast across the entire world.
The hidden tzaddik Rabbi Yosef Voltoch [d. 20 Iyar 1983], 'The Holy Street Sweeper' was a member of the group of hidden tzaddikim who were close disciples of the holy shoemaker Rabbi Moshe Ya'akov Rabikov. Among them were Rabbi Leon Patilon, Rabbi Avraham Fisch, and Rabbi Mendel of Bnei Brak. As Rabbi Yosef finished each kabbalistic book, he would write the Hebrew word "proofread" (מוגה) and sign "Yosef Voltoch, grandson of the maggid of Zlotshov." His custom was to pray by the graves of tzaddikim, where he merited miraculous revelations and revelations of the souls of tzaddikim. All his conduct was guided by the Admo"r Rabbi Shlomke of Zvhil. For his livelihood, Rabbi Yosef worked at night as a street sweeper in Tel Aviv.
