Gideon Shani painted and sculpted
He first began painting on retirement in 2005. He trained in painting, at the Visual Arts Center, at the Kay College of Education in Beer Sheva and graduated as a senior art instructor. He paints realistically, uses watercolors, acrylics and especially oil paints. The field of his paintings is wide and varied, and you can find landscape paintings, stills and portraits, when he concentrates mainly on the Negev landscapes for their special colors.
Over the years since 2005, he has exhibited in 17 solo exhibitions and participated in 50 group exhibitions in Israel and abroad (Finland - 2010, London - August 2010, Wuppertal - June 2011, and Rome - September 2015).
In 2007 he was accepted to the Israel Painters and Sculptors Association.
In 2012, he was elected chairman of the sculpture and painters association of Beer Sheva and the Negev.
From 2012–2016, he collaborates between the sculpture and painters association of Beer Sheva and the Negev for artists' associations across the country. At the same time, he teaches volunteering at the Beer Sheva Mental Health Center. His work draws on the magical beauty of the southern landscapes that he first became acquainted with during his service in the IDF.
In 2015, the sculpture began. He acquired his education in the studio of the sculptor Tzipi Byrne. His sculptures deal with expressive portraits and are influenced by many Bible stories, from which they derive heroic and sacrificial deaths.
