Maseches Nedarim Bomberg. Venice 1522. Wide Margins.
Maseches Nedarim, printed by Daniel Bomberg. Surrounding the text of the Talmud are the commentaries of the Ra’N along with those of the Rosh and Rashi. Rashi’s commentary stops abruptly on page 22b, where it is replaced with the commentary of Rabbeinu Gershom. By way of explanation, the printers inserted the following notation: “here it was lacking and I copied from Rabbeinu Gershom.” Curiously, the Tosfos are not printed on each page as in other tractates, but are placed instead at the end of the volume.
Individual volume of the first complete edition of the Talmud. This edition determined the layout of the page for nearly every subsequent edition of the Talmud. Additionally, this particular edition of the Talmud is virtually free of the encroachments of the censor. As is well-known Daniel Bomberg spared no effort in printing an accurate and magnificent set of the Talmud. The result was the famed “Bomberg Shas” which has been a treasured collector’s item for generations.
Lacking title page (replaced with facsimile), as well as page 8. Page 88 provided from another copy, detached and with smaller margins as well as some worming.
Vinograd Venice 60. Bomberg press. (Should be) 96, 25 pages. 37 cm. Overall very fine condition. A few small holes on page 9 and the last page. Modern elegant leather binding.
Of the rarer Masechtos.
Opening bid $4000
