Important collection of Halachic responsa authored by R. Levi Ibn Chaviv with a lengthy commentary on the Rambam Hilchos Kiddush HaChodesh, laws concerning the lunar calendar.
Includes many detailed charts and diagrams. With additional responsa regarding the revival of Semicha (rabbinical ordination) which was a great debate between the scholars of Jerusalem and Tzefas.
R. Levi Ibn Chaviv (1483-1545), was born in Spain shortly before the era of the Inquisition. As a young child he escaped from Spain together with his father to Salonika. There he developed into a great scholar and assisted his father in leading the community of Spanish exiles. In his later years he settled in Yerusholayim, where he was recognized as great halachic leader and was actively involved in opposing the proposed reinstatement of Semicha by the scholars of Tzefas.
