תקציר
Relates the fate of the Jewish community of Częstochowa in the Holocaust, including the German occupation in September 1939 and life in the ghetto from February 1941. Discusses activities of the Judenrat and the ghetto police, forced labor, the economic situation of the Jews, self-help groups organized by the Judenrat, cultural activities, and the resistance movement. The liquidation of the large ghetto, during which ca. 41,000 Jews were deported to Treblinka or killed on the spot, was carried out in September 1942. The remaining 5,000 Jews were interned in the small ghetto, where hundreds of Jews were killed, including the members of the Judenrat, in spring 1943. Describes resistance activities which took place in 1942-43, until the liquidation of the small ghetto in summer 1943. The remaining Jews were interned in four labor camps and worked at the nearby HASAG factories. In January 1944 they were joined by Jews from other labor camps, and by June ca. 11,000 Jews worked there. The labor camps were liberated in January 1945.
