Nikolai Yakovlevich Tarakanov (26 November 1913 - 15 may 1991) was a Soviet diplomat, Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

Member of the CPSU (b). He graduated from the Moscow city pedagogical Institute (1941) and the Higher diplomatic school of the USSR foreign Ministry (1958).

1951-1955-Counsellor of the USSR Embassy in Czechoslovakia.

1955-1958-listener of the USSR foreign Ministry.

1958-1960-Consul General of the USSR in Bombay (India).

8 September 1960-27 March 1965 - Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USSR to Ceylon.

October 20, 1966-June 24, 1970 - Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USSR to Australia.

1970-1974-employee of the Central office of the USSR foreign Ministry.

Since 1974, he has been retired, working as a research and teaching fellow at the Diplomatic Academy of the USSR foreign Ministry.
