Mikhail Lvovich Matusovsky (23 July 1915 - 16 July 1990) was a Russian Soviet poet, candidate of philological Sciences. The author of poems to a number of famous songs.

Born 10 (23 July) 1915 in Lugansk in a Jewish family, his father Lev Moiseevich Matusovsky was a photographer, his mother-Esther Mikhailovna matusovskaya (nee brookman, 1888-1952) - was a housewife. He graduated from Luhansk secondary school No. 13. His first teacher Maria Semenovna Todorova, he would later dedicate the poem "School waltz", which became a popular song.

After graduating from the construction College in Lugansk, he worked at the factory. At the same time he began to print his poems in local Newspapers and magazines.

In 1933-1934 he studied at the Donetsk Institute of public education, but soon left it and went to Moscow.

In 1939 he graduated from the Moscow Institute of philosophy, literature and history named after N. G. Chernyshevsky (MIFLI). He listened to lectures by N. K. Gudzi and G. N. Pospelov, A. A. Anikst and A. A. Isbach, V. F. Asmus and Y. M. Sokolov. In the same year, 1939, he became a member of the JV of the USSR.

After graduating from MIFLI Matusovsky continued his postgraduate studies at the Department of old Russian literature, where under the scientific supervision of N. K. Gudzia he prepared a PhD thesis on "Essays on the poetic style of old Russian military stories of the period of the Tatar invasion of Russia". However, on the defense of the thesis, scheduled for June 27, 1941, the applicant did not appear: the Great Patriotic war began, and he received a certificate of war correspondent, was already at the front. Professor Guzzi insisted that protection was held in the absence of the applicant. A few days later, Matusovsky, who was at the front, received a telegram conferring on him the degree of candidate of philological Sciences.

During the great Patriotic war he served as a war correspondent in the Newspapers of the Western, North-Western, and Second Belorussian fronts. In front-line Newspapers systematically appeared poetic feuilletons and ditties Matusovsky. His first song "I Returned to my homeland", created together with the composer M. G. Fradkin, sounded immediately after the end of the war.Member of the CPSU (b) since 1945.

During the war, collections of poems were published: "Front" (1942), "when Ilmen-lake is noisy" (1944).
