Augustine Meyerberg (1622-1688), Austrian diplomat, in 1661-1662 was in Russia as a member of the Embassy of the Austrian Emperor
Leopold I, who arrived to mediate between Russia and Poland, who were fighting over Ukraine. The result of the visit to Russia was
the ‘Voyage to Muscovy’ containing valuable, although sometimes tendentious, information about the political history, state system and
life of Russia of the XVII century. F. P. Adelung highly appreciated the importance of Meyerberg’s book and said that ‘undoubtedly it
deserves the most attention to the details of the information contained in it regarding the Geography and Statistics of Russia at that time.’
