Novi Sad, 1922-1923]. 27, 5x21 cm. In total 114 photos and photo cards on 29
pages. Owner’s signature under each photo. In calico binding of the time with gold
embossed top cover.
The album opens with a photo of the commander-in-chief of the Russian army General
P. N. Wrangel, followed by photos of generals A. P. Kutepov and F. F. Abramov.
Various regiments of the Russian army in Yugoslavia, locations of units, military
parades and ceremonial marches, various regimental works, cadet and junker schools
and much more are presented.
On the back of the flyleaf gift inscription made by P. N. Wrangel: ‘To dearest Sergei
Nikolaevich Tretyakov / P. Wrangel / SR-Karlovtsy / November 5, 23’.
Provenance: Tretyakov Sergey Nikolaevich (1882-1944) - industrialist, manufacturer,
public and political figure. Grandson of the Moscow mayor S. M. Tretyakov,
great-nephew of P. M. Tretyakov. In 1917 he was Chairman of the Economic Council
and the Main economic Committee of the Provisional government. He was arrested
together with members of the government, imprisoned in the Peter and Paul fortress.
In 1918 he went to Finland, then to the South of Russia. In 1919, through the United States moved to the Far East, joined the Omsk
government of Admiral A.V. Kolchak. Since 1920 he is in emigration in France. In 1929 he was recruited by the OGPU ( pseudonym:
Ivanov), he provided the transfer of information about the activities of the Russian All military Union; conducted wiretapping of headquarters
(ROVS). In 1937, he participated in the NKVD operation to kidnap the Chairman of the ROVS, General E. K. Miller. During the
occupation of France he was unmasked as a Soviet agent and in 1942 he was arrested by the Gestapo; shot in the camp of Oranienburg.
It is a unique historical and cultural value being an evidence of the White emigration staying in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
