Paris: Modern notes, 1929. - 237 p.; 22x16 cm. In the latest
time semi -leather binding with wide corners and bandage gold-embossed
spine. The endpapers of decorated paper. Edge ‘Small golden head’. Super
bookplate of D. Solozhev: ‘D. S.’ at the bottom of the spine. According to the
bibliophile custom of D. Solozhev, additional materials about Bunin (clippings
of newspaper articles, photos, pages of tear-off calendar) are enclosed or pasted
into the book.
Presentation inscription by the author on the half title: ‘To our good friend
Dmitri N. Boquillon for memory from Iv. Bunin.’
The final book of Bunin’s poems, giving to the author’s right to take one of the
first places in Russian poetry. It should be noted that Vladimir Nabokov invariably
placed Bunin’s poetry higher than his more famous prose. According to
Nabokov, only Fet and Bunin were able to ‘see’ nature (see, for example, his
book of memoirs ‘Other riversides’).

Provenance: Solozhev (Solozhov) Daniil A. (1908-1994), painter, graphic
artist, poet, bibliophile. From a noble family. After the revolution he lived with his parents in the Crimea. In 1920 he was evacuated to
Constantinople, then lived in Bessarabia. During the war he was working in Germany. From 1945 he lived in Lyon, from 1960 in Paris.
He painted landscapes, portraits, paintings on religious subjects, illustrated Russian and French classics (including Gogol’s novel ‘Taras
Bulba’, ‘Spleen et Idéal’ by Sh.Baudelaire, etc.). In 1958 he presented his works in the salon of the Lyon society of fine arts and was
awarded a gold medal. He had an excellent collection of lifetime editions of Russian classics - from Baratynsky to Marina Tsvetaeva.
Author of poetry collections ‘ Poems’ (Braila, until 1940, not found), ‘The Selected’ (Munich, 1973), ‘Sharps and flats’ (Paris, 1995).
