inscription on the half title and notes in the text. There are owner’s inserts at the

A philosophical treatise on the role of chance in history, written in the form of
a dialogue in six parts. First edition. Mark Aldanov (nee. Mark Alexandrovich
Landau; Aldanov-an anagram, which later from a pseudonym turned out to be
a real surname; 1886-1957) - Russian novelist, essayist, author of essays on
historical topics, philosopher and chemist. Thirteen times nominated for the
Nobel prize in literature.
