Group of [4] Books of Be'er Heitev on the Shulchan Aruch, First Editions
There are a number of commentaries called "Be'er Heitev" on the monumental work, the Shulchan Aruch, each of which was authored by a different person. At first, for a period of about fifty years, these commentaries were printed together with the Shulchan Aruch. As a result, confusion reigned with regard to the author's names and some printers did not notice that they were different works, and mistook the author's name. Each part of the Shulchan Aruch was accompanied over the generations by a different Be'er Heitev commentary, written by different authors. (Refer to the extensive coverage of this in Rabbi Yechiel Dov Weller's article in Zechor L'Avraham 1990 pp. 76-92, and 1992 pp. 112-122.)
Before us are four books of the Shulchan Aruch with first editions of Be'er Heitev commentaries, from the works which were customarily accepted and are currently printed on the sheets of the Shulchan Aruch.
* Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim im Peirush Be'er Heitev. "And it is a commentary ... with abbreviated laws from all the Early and Later Authorities ... authored by ... R' Yehuda Ashkenazi, dayan of the Tiktin community, son of ... R' Shimon, ztz"l, scribe of Frankfurt am Main." Amsterdam, 1742.
First edition of the Be'er Heitev as printed today on the pages of the Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim (also called 'Be'er Heitev L'R"Y Tiktin').

* Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim im Peirush Be'er Heitev by the above-mentioned Yehuda Tiktin, "with legal novellae from the book (manuscript) 'Even HaOzer' written by ... R' Ozer [b"r Meir] ztz"l, Av Beit Din of Klimentov." Amsterdam, 1753.
First edition of 'Even HaOzer,' which is a supplement to the Be'er Heitev commentary. The supplements were inserted into the body of the Be'er Heitev commentary and they are currently printed together with it on the pages of the Shulchan Aruch. (Also see Stefansky there.)
