Miniature Notepad. List of the Gaon Rabbi Natan Amram's Manuscript Library, in his Handwriting. Early 19th Century
Handwritten list of printed books and manuscripts belonging the gaon Rabbi Natan Amram, author of Kinyan HaGuf V'Kinyan Peirot. Precise list of where they are and with whom he left them during his mission to Italy. Uniquely rare item.
As stated, aside from the important bibliographic list of hundreds of printed works in Rabbi Amram's library; this list includes a catalog of the important and interesting manuscripts in his possession.
The writer is identified in a number of ways, for example: "With respect to challah by messenger as I cited in Mishbetzet" is noted as a reference on the first leaf, referring to his responsa, Mishbetzot Zahavֲ (Livorno, 1851); "Kinyan Peirot, do another edition, with Hash-m's help" - or, in another place, "My honored father's Korban Pesach" - which is his father's elucidation on the haggadah,ֲ Korban Pesachֲ (Livorno 1836).
The renowned gaon Rabbi Natan Amram [1771-1871] was the chief rabbi of Alexandria. His great-great grandfather was the Ohr HaChaim's first cousin, who ascended together with him from Morocco to the Land of Israel. Rabbi Amram, aside from his tremendous greatness in Torah, was scholarly in many fields, including medicine, and he would heal people free of charge. He was one of the leading emissaries from Safed and Hebron, and for many years he wandered among European cities for the benefit of the Jewish settlement in the Land of Israel. Rabbi Amram authored dozens of books in his lifetime - books of halachah, kabbalah, Jewish thought, philosophy and medicine. His works include:ֲ Kinyan Peirot (Livorno, 1840) which discusses laws of the holidays and festivals of Tishrei and the related prayers; Kinyan HaGufֲ (Livorno, 1868, in two parts) which discusses laws of Even HaEzer;ֲ Mishbetzot Zahavֲ (Livorno, 1851), an anthology of responsa arranged according to the order of the Shulchan Aruch;ֲ Chagigat HaRegel (Salonika, 1853).ֲ Ilui HaNeshamotֲ (Livorno, 1874),ֲ Kuntress Acharonֲ (Livorno, 1868);ֲ Sefer HaRuchot (Salonika, 1858) and more. (Refer toֲ Avodat Lilach, Turgeman, "Rabbi Natan Amram - Emissary of the Hebron Communities" which was submitted to the Department of Jewish History in the Faculty of Judaic Studies, Bar-Ilan University, Ramat Gan, 2011.)
