Sefer Ha’Ikarim, Venice, 1618. The fundamentals of Jewish thought, with commentary by Polish sage Rabbi Gedalya ben Shlomo Zalman. First printing of this commentary.
The commentary by Rabbi Gedalya is divided into roots and branches. Sefer Ha’Ikarim was printed in square letters, while the two parts of the commentary are printed surrounding the main text, in Rashi script. Rabbi Gedalya also added an index of the citations from Chazal that are scattered throughout the text.
The book is prefaced with approbations from the Torah sages of that time – Rabbi Meir of Lublin (a relative of Rabbi Gedalya), the Maharshʺa, the Shelʺa, the author of Kli Yakar and others. At the end of the book there are praises of the book and its author, by Rabbi Yehuda Aryeh of Medina, author of Ari Nohem and other books.
