Yosef Ometz, Warsaw 1885. Bound together with Nachalat Zvi, Lemberg, 1873. A tribute to two of the greatest students of Rabbi Akiva Eger, and who died childless. A talisman book!

Yosef Ometz, by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Yehuda Leib Feder was born in Poznan and received his Torah education from the rabbi of that city, the Gaon Rabbi Akiva Eger. Rabbi Feder was a dayan in Breslau. He died without any descendants.

This composition was bound in a single volume with Nachalat Zvi, Lemberg, 1873, by Rabbi Zvi the son of Rabbi Eliyahu Gutmacher. This volume includes Ken Meforeshet, also by Rabbi Zvi Gutmacher - an elucidation of Tractate Kinim, with the text of the tractate. Rabbi Eliyahu Gutmacher added prefaces to his son’s compositions and even printed two of his own compositions at the end of the book: Tzofnat Pa’ane’ach and Shalom BaFamamlia Shel Ma’ala, which reconciles contradictions between different parts of the Shulchan Aruch and its commentators.

Rabbi Zvi Gutmacher (1819-1871) learned with his father and with his father’s rabbi, the Gaon Rabbi Akiva Eiger. Rabbi Eliyahu strove to publish his son’s chiddushim. Ken Meforeshet was well received, among other reasons because of the promise that Rabbi Zvi’s father wrote in the preface: “It is possible that if, when a person needs Divine intervention, he should arouse himself and study the mishna with Rashi and Tosefot Yomtov and the commentary by my son ztz”l, and afterward stand up and pray whatever words come to his mouth…. he will be answered, and if not, he should do this once each day for three days.
