The author, Harav Moshe Mordechai Epstein [1866-1934], head of the Knesset Yisrael Yeshiva in Slobodka and Chevron, and a member of the Moetzet Gedolei Hatorah. during the First World War, went in exile with his yeshiva to Minsk and Kremenchug, and in 1919 returned to Slobodka, in 1924 due to a recruitment decree for students the Yeshiva in Slobodka was transferred to the city of Chevron in Eretz Yisrael, where he stayed for about a year, then returned to Slobodka to conduct the affairs there, and returned to Chevron again. He authored the set of Levush Mordchai.
