Collection of Letters and Documents – The Establishment of the Electric Company, the 1920 and 1929 Riots / Letters by Pinchas Rutenberg and by Yekutiel Baharav
Collection of documents and letters, dealing with the establishment of the Electric Company and state and political matters in Palestine. 1920s.
The collection contains:
* Two notebooks with carbon copies of letters which were sent by Yekutiel Baharav, one of the founders of the Electric Company, during the months of January-May 1924 (Russian, English, Yiddish and Hebrew). The letters deal with the establishment of the power plant in Naharayim, purchase of lands in the Jordan Valley (Deganya, Milchamiya / Menachamiya) and other subjects.
* Copies of letters and typewritten letters, three of them signed by Pinchas Rutenberg. Among them, copies of letters to Lord Rufus Daniel Isaacs, 1st Marquess of Reading, who was the chairman of the directorate of the Electric Company in the 1920s and 1930s; letter to Dr. G. Halpern in London, referring to Chaim Weizmann and the Greek businessman Mavrommatis, who received in 1914 the right to provide electricity to the vicinity of Jerusalem; and other letters.
* Letters and documents about the Arabs of Palestine, from 1921, when Rutenberg was a commander of the "Hagana" in Tel-Aviv.
* Four photographs – three of them documenting workers and one documenting managers and senior members – related, presumably, to the establishment of electric plants in Palestine.
A total of 20 items. Size and condition vary. Good overall condition.
