The front cover of the first four issues feature illustrations of "The Guard", riding his horse or looking at farmers in a field. The cover of the fifth issue features a photograph of the monument made by artist David Polus in memory of Alexander Zaïd (1886-1938), one of the founders of the organizations "Bar Giyota", "HaShomer" and "Agudat HaShomrim", who was murdered in July 1948 during the 1936-1939 Arab Revolt in Palestine.
The "Union of Guards" ("Agudat HaShomrim") was established in July 1933 by ex-members of "HaShomer" movement and acted to transfer the responsibility for guarding the settlements to Jewish hands. At first, the members of the union operated in the north yet a after a while, expanded their activity to the areas of the Sharon and the south. After the establishment of the state, the union became a professional-national security organization.
