Eight "Order of the Day" leaves and a "Combat Song" – Authored by the Education Officer of the Givati Brigade, Abba Kovner – July-October 1948
Eight "Order of the Day" leaves ("Daf Kravi") and a combat song authored by Abba Kovner in his position as the education officer of the Givati brigade during the War of Independence. Israel, July-October 1948. Hebrew, one leaf is in Yiddish.
During the War of Independence, approx. 80 "Order of the Day" ("Daf Kravi") leaves were printed by the IDF, the most important being those of the Givati Brigade which were authored by the poet, writer and partisan Abba Kovner. To a large extent, these leaves set the tone for those that came after them, especially during the first decades after the establishment of the state: the placement of the text, the size of the font, dealing with ethical questions and purity of arms and even the name "Daf Kravi".
1-8. Eight "Order of the Day" leaves authored by Abba Kovner during the war, seven of them signed in the plate "A.K." (Hebrew). The leaves open with the caption "Death to the Invaders!" and contain an important documentation of the battles against the Egyptian army: the battle of Negba (which is called "Negbagrad" in the leaf), the conquest of Arab villages and posts, the bombings of the Israeli air force and more. One of the leaves was printed in a different format and is not signed (possibly it served as a draft of a leaf that was later printed in the regular format).
9. "Who Said We Must Abandon – a Combat Song for Sabbath Night on the Battlefront". Printed song. Dedicated and signed "For those exposed on the battlefront, with love, Abba" (Hebrew) and dated 15.7.48.
Size and condition vary. Good overall condition. Filing holes and stains. Fold lines, closed and open tears to the margins of some of them (small).
