Shay is not indifferent to beauty. He tries to look at it, understand and appreciate it, enjoy it and not take it for granted. The moment painting, composition, perspective and time, angle of light, tone and shadow are one-off, Shay tries to grasp this exclusivity on a continuous journey between the canvas and the landscape through the color palette and back. He paints outside and then also in the studio.
Shay's paintings are about the search for beauty, light, color and stain. The local light and the colorful, Mediterranean, present and dominant color. The sights of Israel are Israeli, they are his sources of inspiration, they excite him, the fields, the furrows, the mountains, the trees, the sea, the vast expanses and the cliffs. His Israeli locality is expressed directly in the light and shade typical of our country, misses the spaces, but also authentic and uncompromising. In all his paintings there is loyalty to the look he has drawn, but there is also a personal interpretation:
"Painting is imagination. Even when you draw from life, everything is imagination. Any reality that can be seen and can be preceded by what you do is all about becoming an imagination ... There is no ideal without imagination, and no imagination without fact." . Israel Hershberg
Shay uses the best materials, bedding and tools, without shortcuts. He is in a continuous search and learning process and draws with passion, vigor and dedication.
Studied painting in various and varied settings for the best artists in the country, including two years in the artist class of Israel Hirschberg in the Jerusalem Painting and Drawing Workshop, at "The Station" with Aram Gershuni, David Nippo, Ran Tannenbaum, Eldad Farber, Israel Mondrian and others.
At the base of his art is the art of painting the Old Masters - contemplation, study, dedication and investment.
