A photo album documenting the construction of the 'new' central station in Tel Aviv

An album containing 180 photographs documenting the construction of the "new" Central Station in Tel Aviv, from the beginning of construction in the excavation and paving of the ground to the completion of the station building.

The new central bus station of Tel Aviv, is a large bus terminal integrated in a shopping center located in the Neve Sha'anan neighborhood of southern Tel Aviv, at 108 Lewinsky Street. The station operates public transport companies: Egged, Dan, Afikim , Lines, metropolitan area, Superbus and Dan in the south The station is built on 44,000 square meters of land and includes 230,000 square meters on seven different levels. The idea of building a new and large central station was first put forward by Arie Piltz in 1963. Architect Ram Carmi, together with architects Zvi Comet and Yael Rothschild, began construction on December 14,1967. The station was in fact only renewed in 1983, with the purchase of the project by the contractor Mordechai Yona (through Heftsiba controlled company) in partnership with the Egged and Dan cooperatives. Yona continued to build the station, and the design was entrusted to architect Yael Rothschild, and architect Moti Bodek. On August 17, 1993, the station was opened to the public.

In 2013, the Tel Aviv Municipality approved the outline plan "Tel Aviv 5000", whereby in the future the Central Station will change its purpose to a public, business and residential building and will effectively cease to be a bus station.

Color photographs 15x10 cm. Album: 35x35 cm. Very good condition.
