Important Rabbi Avraham Adadi Complete Torah scroll on Gevil, Libya, Circa 1800.
Square Sephardi script.
Tagin on the letters שעטנז גץ and on the letters בדק חיה.
Wawe amudim.
Characteristic use of both Chet of Rashì and R. Tam.
Petuchot and setumot according to Rambam and Rosh.
Provenience and dating: by the type of the gevil, the seams and the writing we can say without doubt that the scroll was written in Libya between the second half of XVIII and the XIX century.
On the flesh side of the gevil it is stamped that the scroll belonged to the Kabalist Rav Avraham Hayyim Adadi (1801-1874) - the most important scholar of Libya.
He moved to Zefat during last period of his life.
Between his numerous books the work Ha-Shomer Emet published in Leghorn in 1847 on the rules of writing the Torah Scroll.
It is plausible that his indications were applied in our Scroll.
This important origin and the prestigious property is attested by his son Saul by a stamp: ספרי ישיבת מו"הר א"א רב אח"אי זצו"קל - הצעיר שאול אדאדי.
Parchment height: 48.5cm.
Text height: 36cm.
42 lines.
Some erased letters, well readable
