The First Three Works by the Abarabanel, Printed in his Lifetime. Constantinople 1505. Post Incunabula. Magnificent Copy with Wide Margins

Rare find. Three famous works by the Abarbanel printed in Constantinople in one volume, complete and in magnificent condition. Especially rare books.

Rosh Amanah  - studies in topics of faith and Judaism by Don Yitzchak Abarbanel. Constantinople [David and Shmuel ibn Nachmias Press], 1505. First edition.

Renowned work by the Abarbanel including 24 chapters of fundamentals of Jewish faith and philosophy.

Printed without a title page, and after the blank first leaf a poem was printed in honor of the book by Rabbi Yehudah, the author's son. This page has a wide border with plant and animal decorations.

At the end of the book the author's colophon is printed; he wrote it when he completed the book in Naples at the end of Cheshvan 1494. As is known, the Abarbanel was exiled to Italy with his family during the Spanish expulsion. That year, 1494-5, he was forced to exile in Sicily. This haggadah is famous for three virtues. It was one of the first haggadahs ever printed, it is the first haggadah of which several complete copies have survived, and finally, it is the first haggadah printed with a commentary.

First edition of the Abarbanel's renowned commentary on the haggadah, later printed in hundreds(!) of editions, including abbreviated, and commentaries have been written on it.

At the end of the book the author's colophon is printed; he wrote it when he completed the book in Monopoli in the Apulia region of Italy on the eve of Passover 1496. Otzar HaHaggadot 5. At the end of the book, on a special page, the printers' colophon is printed for these three books: " These works are completed ... by the brothers, the printers, Rabbi David and Rabbi Shmuel, known as ibn Nachmias, and also Rabbi Yitzchak Kapusta ... Before us are three books from the inception of the press in Constantinople, at which many hundreds of books were printed.

Very fine condition. Minimal aging stains. Professional completion of the margins in the first eight leaves of Rosh Amanah. Very few worming perforations in the white margins. Original leather binding with restored spine.
