She'elot U'Teshuvot Avnei Nezer, Ohr HaChaim section, by the Admo"r Rabbi Avraham Borenstein of Sochochov, son-in-law of Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kotzk. First edition, Pietrkov, 1912.
There are approximately [7] lengthy scholarly glosses amongst the book's leaves, in the hand of the renowned Polish gaon Rabbi Aryeh Tzvi Frumer, known by the moniker "the Kozhiglover Rav"- "the Kozhiglover, " a disciple of the author of Avnei Nezer and rosh yeshivah of Chachmei Lublin after the passing of Mahara"m Shapira. One of the glosses is signed.
Rabbi Aryeh Tzvi Frumer [1888-1943], or the "Kozhiglover Rav, " as his name has been whispered with admiration throughout generations of Chassidim to this day, was one of the exemplary personalities of pre-Holocaust Poland; a wondrous gaon in both the hidden and revealed [aspects of Torah]. During his youth, he studied under Rabbi Avraham Borenstein of Sochochov, author of
Avnei Nezer. After his rabbi's passing, Rabbi Frumer was appointed as head of the yeshivah in Sochochov. The city and its yeshivah were destroyed at the beginning of WWI, and Rabbi Aryeh Tzvi moved to Warsaw. He began to serve as rabbi of Kozhiglov at the end of WWI. Due to sudden passing of Rabbi Yehudah Meir Shapira, founder of the Chachmei Lublin yeshivah, he was appointed rosh yeshivah there, and its students became very attached to him, almost like to an Admo"r. He held this position until the yeshivah was dispersed by the Nazis in 1939. He innovated the study of daily mishnah as a continuation of the Daf Yomi study program which had been established by his predecessor, Rabbi Meir Shapira. His works are:
