As a young man, Rabbi Moshe Dovid was the rabbi of Tolcsva. He made Aliyah to Safed and headed the Chassidic community in Safed after the great earthquake of 1837. His son-in-law was the Yeitav Lev of Sighet and his descendents were to be the Admorim of Satmar and Sanz.
