Sh'eris haPletah. Letter from Rabbi Yehoshua’le of Horadna-Minsk, for assistance for Holocaust refugees in Eretz Yisrael. Jerusalem, 1947

A long letter from the renowned Baal chessed, Rabbi Yehoshua Zimbalist (known as Rabbi Yehoshua’le Horodner), to the rabbi of Jerusalem, to come to the aid of the Holocaust refugees in Eretz Yisrael. This letter is part of the preparations for the visit of American community activist Rabbi Dr. Eliyahu Jung, to see the public, Torah and chessed institutions in Eretz Yisrael, to bring the Sh’eris HaPleta refugee organization to his attention and to assist it.

Rabbi Yehoshua of Horadna served as the Rosh Yeshiva of Minsk and when he wanted to make Aliyah the Chofetz Chaim told him that “a general must not leave the front in the midst of the battle.” Rabbi Yehoshua eventually moved to Eretz Yisrael in 1934 and devoted his energies to chessed and tzedaka matters.
Handwritten on both sides of the page. 26.5x21 cm. Very fine condition.
