Classics. Sefer Chareidim. First Edition. Venice 1601. First Edition of “Yedid Nefesh”.
Legendary sefer of ethical directives authored by R. Elozor Azkiri. With an in-depth commentary expounding on many of the Torah’s laws from an ethical and mystical perspective. The well-known Piyut of Yedid Nefesh was printed here for the first time, albeit with some variations from the version as we know it.
R. Elozor Azkiri (1533-1600), was a talmid of R. Yosef Sagis and R. Yaakov Berav. He was among the great Mekubalim of Tzefas during the period of the Arizal, R. Yosef Karo (Bais Yosef), R. Shlomo Alkabetz, R. Moshe Kordevero (RaMaK), R. Yisroel Najara etc.
The Sefer Chareidim was received to enormous acclaim and was reprinted tens of times.
With early unidentified rabbinical glosses.
Stefansky Hebrew Classics 469. Vinograd Venice 925. Zanetti press. [82] pages. 19.5 cm. Very fine condition. Some repairs. Modern binding.
