Classics. Netzach Yisroel. MaHaRAL. First Edition. Prague 1599. Published during the MaHarAL’s lifetime.
Classic work on the final redemption by the MaHaRAL of Prague. The Sefer contains profound insights pertaining to Exile, Redemption and the concept of Repentance. The work is appropriately studied by many during the Three Weeks of Mourning, for the lengthy explanations concerning the Sugya of Kamtza and Bar Kamtza and the resulting destruction of the Beis HaMikdash.
In addition to being one the greatest of his era, the MaHaRAL is particularly famous for his distinctive explanations of Agados Chazal. He published most of his philosophical compositions during his lifetime, thereby preserving them for posterity. Unfortunately, many of his other works on Halacha and his Talmudic novella were lost. Chassidic leaders and especially the Maggid of Kozhnitz recognized the importance of the reflective teachings of the MaHarAL and encouraged their reprinting at the end of the 18th century. In the words of R. Yitzchok Hutner, the teachings of the MaHaRAL are “Nistar BeLashon Nigleh”, meaning “That which is hidden in the language of that which is revealed”.
