Letterpress title in red and black, and on verso, two mystical roundels: a Tetragrammaton wordsquare and pentagram. Extensive use of Hebrew and “Angelic” script. With previous owner’s signature and notes on verso of title.

Orientalist Thomas Bang (1600-61) was a professor of Hebrew at the University of Copenhagen. This work is a study of languages and their origins - complying with the general belief of that time that their source was Hebrew. Additionally, there is a long section (pp. 16-96) devoted to the apocryphal Book of Enoch and its theories on superstition and demonology.
